Fighting against spammers is good, but...

Post by ZubaZ »

Once upon a time, there was a channel in the Undernet.
The users are playing a nice idle game there. But, like in other channels, some peoples *must* show us nice infected websites, for us, to feel good. It's good for health, they say.

It's good that some ircops are good intended and g-line them but, sometimes the target is wrong, like in our case:

The infected message:

|20:12:38| -Huh-GirL:#thatnicechannel- http://www.the.website.don't.matter/girl4boy/ww.exe Filme S e X aRmY USA hello iRAQ GiRl Download it ;)

Well, I can't make the colors here, or I can but I am lazy and I will not do it. Anyway, they mask the ww.exe part with colors, that way only http://www.the.website.don't.matter/girl4boy/ will show.

A guy, I guess with good intentios, show us the real url:
http://www.the.website.don't.matter/girl4boy/ww.exe

The messasge:
|20:13:16| <Tatinox> http://www.the.website.don't.matter/girl4boy/ww.exe

My advice was as follows:
|20:13:19| <ZubaZ> Do not follow that URL

the action:

|20:13:54| * Tatinox (~tatinox@some.ip) Quit (G-lined ([1] do not spread virus))

The real spammer whois after this nice story:

Huh-GirL is ss@if.you.need.the.ip.tell.me * ss
Huh-GirL using *.undernet.org The Undernet Underworld
Huh-GirL has been idle 7mins 30secs, signed on Sat May 22 19:54:46
Huh-GirL End of /WHOIS list.

My advice again:
|20:17:36| <ZubaZ> anyway, regarding that g-line, actualy Huh-GirL is the spreading bot/user ;p

....after some minutes

Huh-GirL is ss@if.you.need.the.ip.tell.me * ss
Huh-GirL using *.undernet.org The Undernet Underworld
Huh-GirL has been idle 7mins 30secs, signed on Sat May 22 19:54:46
Huh-GirL End of /WHOIS list.

Well, I know, that ircop had good and noble intentions, but a little attention is good sometimes. While that guy is wondering about his weid disconnect, that *thing*, Huh-GirL, is infecting others.

PS: Do not throw in me with rocks, I am not accusing anyone.
PS2(not the mouse port): Excuse my english if it's bad. If not, ignore this line. You can ignore it anyway, heh.

Yes, a sad little incident there.

But did you have to add BBcode url tags? I should say not. You should edit your post and remove the BBcode url tags from it. People might accidentally go there. Or is that what you really want?

I believe phpBB automatically inserts URL tags for, errr, URLs.
