[Help] Beggining with IRC client.

Post by no greater love »

Hello. My name is David, and I would like to find out how to use IRC; specifically to get on an undernet channel entitled #scripture

I am not tech-savvy, and have no idea how to do this. I use YM...but this is way more "geeky" it seems.

Please help me.

Hello, David.

First of all, you'll have to get an IRC Client to connect to Undernet.
If you use Windows, the most spreaded one is mIRC (http://mirc.co.uk/get.html). Download it, install it and set it up with your nickname/e-mail address/full name/identd (they don't have to be real), and just type /server irc.undernet.org (which will connect you to one of the undernet servers that are available at that moment).

All you have to do once you're connected, is to type /join #scripture and you'll be chatting in the desired channel along with the others.

If you can't install mIRC, this is a cool Java-powered Webchat for you to use.

Also, for further assistance related to IRC, check Tjerk Vonck's FAQ.

This is mostly it, I know it doesn't answer all of your questions, but I'm sure that it pointed you out in the right direction. Learn as you go.

I wish you luck, and let us know how it went :)
