I made that question long time ago, and the answer was it was a security measure, and it makes sence. I know that it may causes problems to non abusers, but it was necessary at the time (and I still think it's necessary).

One of those features that should have been made years ago.

Best advices:

1. Keep your computer updated
2. Have a good anti-virus
3. Get an add-ware scaner if the anti-virus doesn't have it.


Or just use a decent OS

I've the same problem, IRC is closed from my work. I've asked some friends what uncommon ports were open or even if was possible to open a new port. I've asked this about 1 years 1/2, but I wasn't lucky. I just hope you have more sucess than me.
