Favourite clients for wintendo:
- Visual IRC <http://www.visualirc.net/>
- Hydrairc <http://www.hydrairc.com/>
(Xchat used to be my favourite on wintendo too, until they started to release the newer versions as shareware)
Favourite clients for linux:
- Xchat <http://www.xchat.org>
- BitchX <http://www.bitchx.org>

Why does eveyone complain so much about trial versions of the clients, mIRC is shareware , noone complained about it and it's almost as expencive as klient and has less features. Do you think everyone has time to take/make/install pugins for mirc to get it look as klient ? anyway i heard that the next klient version will work with sp2 too.
i was talking about windows irc clients

For windows users and chatters (beginners) xChat is much better than mIRC. First of all xChat is free. Second, the chatters using mIRC are copy/pasting malicious commands and their mIRC get infected. With 20 chars malicious command for ctcp remote control their whole computer gets infected, because of course the people who control them install gtb0ts, backdoors, etc in their computers using that ctcp remote control. Yeah you get what you pay for. You pay for a bug and you get malware in your pc.
Best Regards,
Mitko

Due to the large amount of time and expense expended in creating X-Chat for Windows, it will only be available to registered users from now on. However, you can download and try 2.4.0 right now.
the win32 version of X-Chat is not free anymore unless im mistaken

For (MS) windows I prefer mIRC (with x-addons)
For *nix (text) I dig ScrollZ / BitchX (with x-addons)
Pretty standard answer I guess

As i can see there are a lot of different oppinions about IRC clients, but there are some facts ... mIRC is the most used, that`s not a question, and with those thousand of scripts some use it more and more, and i think that if anyother IRC client would be so popular like mIRC i`m sure someone would find a way to install backdoors on your computers thruw it.

In order of my preference: 1- BitchX (just because I like, not because of any features, addons, etc) 2- X-chat, 3- mIRc are the clients of my podium

Over the years I've used Homer (MacOS), ircle (MacOs), ircII, BitchX and irssi.
For unix I highly recommend irssi as it's possibly the most dynamic in all the IRC clients and it's possibly the most robust Unix IRC client out there!
