The maxlogins option that was recently removed was actually very useful with "unstable" connections; like dynamic IP switching ADSL.

I had this set to 2, so every time I got disconnected by my ISP I could automatically register on reconnect.

Now I get this message when connecting:
-X- AUTHENTICATION FAILED as username. (Maximum concurrent logins exceeded).
-
-X- Current Sessions: nick!~user@username.users.undernet.org

(the "current" session is actually a ghost, going to timeout very quickly)

Is it possible to reactivate this function only for _two_ logins at once? I have set up a timer for now, but it is very annoying for other users.
They see me:
- join the channel
- the ghost timing out
- leave the channel (Registered)
- join the channel again
instead of only one timeout like previously.

And having that setting set to 2 or 3 made some people cause mass flooding, mass-spamming etc. So, what do you suggest ?

I consider these additional join/part as mass flooding to all chans I'm on.

Suggestion 1: Set it to 2, but the second login would be allowed only after two hours or something.

Suggestion 2: when a second login occurs, the server could ping the two nicks. If both responds, force logout (K-Line ?) the second one, which is an abuser.

I thought I was clear. That's not a problem for me, I can wait and the process can be automatized and transparent with a script on my side.

The problem is that it bugs other users for no reason. They all see two consecutives join/part in 15sec. Never heard of join flood ? That's what occurs atm.

Not to mention the point made above that it removes all the advantages of hiding your IP.

That's not a matter of bad connection. That's a matter of IP switching on dynamic DSL lines.

Every few hours (usually 36h in my case), the connection is terminated by the ISP, and the client has to reconnect to pick another IP.

Every single DSL line behave like that in Belgium and I suspect that's the case in many other places over the world.

I think I described the problem very well in my first post here.

I don't really understand how an optional setting to two maxlogins would lead to massive flood. If some users abused of it, I agree they must be punished. But not in a way everyone else is penalized as well.
