I assume if this should be implemented, it should be implemented along with the other things, eg no ctcp's in the channel (+C) if I remember correctly.
Personally, I think it's a good idea, a good addition.

Why not just strip colors/formatting in your IRC client? mIRC allows that in options, (IRC/Messsages) and I am willing to bet most other IRC clients have provisions for that.
I don't see the need for a channel mode to do this, when the option is already at your finger tips.

It's true, but that won't stop people who want to spam, flood, or simply be annoying. The idea is good, and its implementation would be nice.

That's what bans are for.

When spammers will see that they aren't allowed to spam in colors, they will simply spam without colors, so what would be the point of the mode ?

Just my 5 cents :P

as I understand it, the coders are not willing to place code that filters the content of a message and they believe this is moderating to which undernet does not do.

(Then there is the processing load on the irc servers to worry about)

Yea lol, at least let them use colors, that way i will not even look at the message , if they will spam in normaly i will not be able to make a diferance betwen normal text and spam and i will have to read it lol. :P

Even black color it's still a color, it's useless to add such an option since (like Eenie said) mirc already has it.

I think is a good idea to implement mode +c and +C, if you set your mIRC client to dont read colours , others users will read it and you don't , and if you are an OP and your channel have rules that dont use colours and an lamer come using colours you wont be able to see him, and is useless to BAN every user when we just can evade this situation by adding a mode into a channel , is not a big deal...

just a small addition, not everyone uses mIRC. It is a pain on irssi, if you don't set it up properly, to deal with mIRC colors. And regarding the coders not willing to add features for filtering content, mode +m blocks all the content from non op/voice users actually :)

Conclusion?

guys dont even suggest new modes anymore. undernet will not add new modes +c +C +S +M...

if they start with one they will have to do another one and then another one and another one... at the end it will turn to be like nefarious..

then the lag maybe goes from 0.2 to 1s for example..

and as stated in another post. they cannot afford that much of bandwidth.

Just like many others before me I also agree that +c/+C shouldn't be added as there are too many channels and the server would consume a large amount of it's resources to deal with these modes. If you don't like colours in your channel, just get a bot or a script that kicks people when they use colours and you can also strip them with your client and trust the bot to do the kicking in that case. As it would be time and resource consuming for you to run a bot , imagine that the undernet servers would have even a greater headacke. So I suggest that every channel should deal with it's own mess. Enjoy Unet :D
