 Post subject: other type of database for GNUWorld

can you change the type of database so that the ppl that are running an small server not to install mysql? plz answer

The database used isn't mysql - it's postgresql. As far as I know, further database functionaility is being considered, but at this time from what I remember it's only pgsql.

PostgreSQL 7.2.x is recommended. And GNUWorld is only working with postgresql as backend for now.

2 things worth noting:

1. postgresql is just as free as mysql (so that cancels the cost part of "small server")

2. postgresql actually has more features than mysql (as I understand it, but I could be wrong)

in order to make gnuworld compatible with more then just one db engine a lot of changes would need to be done, as the current code is very much postgres specific.

Website could be converted for multiple database engines using the DBI interface.

Ask your shell-admin (root-user) for more information if there's a posibility to use Postgresql :)
