Howdy.

I am having a good deal of trouble connecting to the IRC undernet server. I am using an online webchat interface on a separate website, but logging in from that website continued giving me the following message:

Quote:
[21:05] Connecting...
[21:06] Unable to connect : java.net.ConnectException : Operation timed out

I have been trying this since 12:00.
I hit connect, and when it doesn't work the first time, I enter /server irc.undernet.org and it continues to not work. I thus tried logging in through the webchat on this website, only to present the same results-- operation timed out.

As I am on a Mac, I cannot download the usual mIRC, so I downloaded TalkSoup instead. To no avail, I continued getting the timed out message. Just to determine exactly what the problem was, I tried connecting to QuakeNet--- it was slow, but I made it through.

Now, going back to the original webchat interface that I am using, I have been using it for two months on this Mac perfectly. Within the last week, however, the initial connect status would not work and I had to type in /server irc.undernet.org after the initial time out. Now, that just isn't working.

Please help!

((PS: My Java is working fine))

Perfectly good irc clients for the Mac include:

http://www.ircle.com/,
http://www.snak.com/, and
http://www.irssi.org/,

are just a few, search the forums and the web for more.

If you are after mIRC script compatibility I believe snak is the best way to go.

As for connecting, you may need to verify your setup, ie if you are behind a firewall, is it blocking your attempts to connect?

I downloaded Snak, and it is working.

I went back to the webchat page I've been using, and now it's working again. >.<

Weird.

-sigh-

Ah, again it is doing it to me.
I don't believe firewalls are doing anything; I haven't added or removed any in two months, and it has been working fine (up until this incident, of course).

So, I try connecting via the webchat again, and it fails.
I try going through Snak, and get this:

Quote:
Info Looking up server irc.undernet.org
Info Connecting to server 195.54.102.4:6667
Info Not connected
Info Looking up server eu.undernet.org
Info Connecting to server 129.27.9.248:6667

Info Not connected
Info Looking up server irc.undernet.org

Again, it is not what I'm using or the anything like that (I believe), because I Snak I was just able to connect to ChatNet.

Okay, while I was typing this, Snak connected to undernet, and I have no clue why it did out of the blue.

Anyone have any insight into what might be causing the problems/delays?

Sorry you are having so much trouble, but I see your client is trying to connect to servers we do not have on Undernet.

A current server list is available here: http://www.undernet.org/servers.php

The IRC command for connecting to a server is /server Name-of-Server-Here :port#

The port# is not usually necessary when connecting to Undernet, but the ports are also listed on the servers page I referenced for you.

If you try a few of the servers on that list, I am willing to bet your problem will be solved.

Good Luck,
Eenie ;-)
